Museum Fund Raising Events
An enthusiastic group of Darling residents braved the cold in late July to attend a talk by Michael Duckitt titled, “The breed from the past for the future….. Nguni”. The Duckitt family have farmed on Weylands Farm for six generations but have only been farming Nguni cattle for about 13 years. There was no doubting his passion for this unique breed of cattle which is special to southern Africa. A hybrid of different Indian and later European cattle breeds, they were introduced to southern Africa during their migration from the north of the continent. They are readily seen grazing in the fields around Darling. Many thanks Michael for a well researched and educational talk. If you would like to learn more about Michael’s ngunis, visit the Darling Wine Shop website by clicking on the following link http://darlingwine.co.za/from-premium-nguni-to-premium-kroon/.
A few weeks later, Ian Bernhardi entertained us with his talk on the history of the Presbyterian Church in Darling. His recently published book titled “Portrait of a Village Church” details the 100 years since the church was built. His talk was witty and informative , and accompanied by Wilfred Duckitt on his electric piano. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. For those who may have missed it and are interested in buying his book, they are on sale at the museum.

Carols By Candlelight
Although still a long way ahead, the Museum is planning a Carols by Candlelight evening on Friday December 4th. We will have a number of fun stalls such as tombola, apple bobbing, cake stall, food stalls to name just a few. So, we are appealing to the generous residents of Darling to donate items for the tombola for adults and children, and also for volunteers to make cakes for the cake stall. Please drop off any items at the Museum and leave your name and details with Dianne if you are able to contribute to the cake stall. Should you wish to man a stall, please leave your details at the Museum. Of course, Father Christmas will be making an appearance.
